Your own custom search engine on your blog

A step-by-step tutorial for creating and integrating a Google custom search engine into your WordPress blog.

For this tutorial, you’ll need a hosted WordPress blog (not a WordPress.com blog, in other words), and either an FTP program or a Web-based file manager you can use to create and edit a file on your blog’s server.

If you follow these instructions, the search results will be displayed within your blog like any static WordPress page, with your blog header at the top, footer at the bottom, and normal sidebar.

I had to do a little problem-solving to come up with this procedure. I first tried using WordPress to make a page, and pasting the custom search engine (CSE) code into it, but I couldn’t get that to work. I’d be glad if anyone could share an easier way to achieve the same results. The following procedure is a little tedious, but it definitely works.

Well. Let’s get started!
