Dave Rawlings Machine at the Rio

Now I know why they call it the Dave Rawlings Machine. First of all, Dave is, without question, a passionate picking machine. Second, the unnamed cog in this two-geared machine, Gillian Welch, has become a household name, and she’s in need of no additional publicity.

They really rocked.

You knew it was coming. Even though I’ve blogged only sporadically this year. Here it is – my favorite album releases of 2008. Why? Because everyone else does? No. Because it forces me to winnow through everything that’s stacked up and toss the chaff, leaving an iTunes library chock full of pure luscious goodness.

Music video: Nickel Creek

Nickel Creek members grew up on bluegrass. They’ve gone so far beyond. Sadly, all good things must pass, and the band will be ending later this year after doing some touring. Better keep an eye on Chris Thile, Sean Watkins and Sara Watkins!
