Optimistic birthday

I had a birthday realization. I’ve been thinking of myself as aging and frumpy.

So for my birthday, I’m starting a small personal campaign to change that aspect of my self-image. I started by weeding out a bunch of old shabby clothes I’ve wanted to get rid of for years and getting back into my home aerobics workouts.

I may get a haircut, but I won’t worry about going gray, which is happening pretty rapidly. Gray’s fine with me, it’s not worth the time and energy to color it.

I’m feeling pretty good about this resolution and I think I’ll post about my progress every month or so, as extra motivation for me.

I’m also finding some inspiration in my fellow blogger’s onward and upward trend. You go gal!

How much digital media do YOU have?

Well, my Airport Express gave up the ghost, as I now know happens often. Oh well, I got a couple of good years of use. But I am so sad. No more streaming my tunes from computer to stereo…for a few days.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new one. While I was at it I ordered an Airport Base Station – the new one that does file sharing from any USB drive plugged into it. And of course, I had to order a NewerTech 500GB MiniStack drive for backing up ALL my files, while my 300GB LaCie will be delegated as the active music drive.

I currently have about 120GB of music, movies, and audiobooks. I feel self-indulgent in acquiring so much music, and that I should get a life, but then again being fatigued a lot of the time, music IS my life and keeps me from becoming bored and bitter. That’s how I justify spending all this dough. As if I needed an excuse…

PLEASE TAKE THE SURVEY AND MAKE ME FEEL BETTER!

It’ll be a while before the base station is shipped, but I promise I’ll post about it once I get my new setup working.

Tomato Rice

Very basic, but I’m wanting to cook it today, so I might as well post the recipe while I’m at it. Very yummy with some refried black beans.

Tomato Rice

1/8 cup + 1 T olive oil
1/2 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 large tomatoes, chopped (fresh or canned)
2 cups water or chicken broth
1 cup rice
salt and pepper to taste

Heat olive oil in saucepan. Add onion and garlic and saute until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes and broth and bring to a boil, then add rice. Cover and simmer until rice is done. Salt and pepper to taste.

Errorism

Jeez, it’s hard to believe a cartoon character in lights freaked out the Boston police department so badly that they decided it must be a terrorist bomb. Even the Mass. governor is making threatening remarks about siccing the state’s attorney general on those evil perpetrators of this dangerous hoax. Which by the way, wasn’t a hoax, it was an advertising campaign.

The guys who put up the signs didn’t freak out though. They stayed pretty cool under questioning by the media.

In some weird way, though I have no connection whatsoever with them, I feel proud of these guys. But what do you think? Grace under pressure? Not very hilarious comedians? Destructive pranksters? Dastardly terrorists in disguise? Give it up in the comments.
